June 23, 2007

Dear Fellow Legion Family Members,

Happy Summer!  I hope you all had as much fun at Convention as I did.  Thank you to everyone for putting District 5 in first place for membership in the state, and to all my Post Commanders and Adjutants for getting District 5 100% for Consolidated Post Reporting this year.

Our Department officers for 2007 - 2008 are:

Commander Chuck Lewis Post 49 Tilton, National Executive Committeeman Jack Neylon Post 41 Whitefield, Alternate NEC Roland Patnode Post 7 Rochester, Vice Commander Bill Roy Post 2 Manchester, Vice Commander George McCall Post 6 Portsmouth, Vice Commander Charlie Cook Post 24 Marlboro, Vice Commander Gunny Brewster Post 38 Fitzwilliam, Adjutant John Zachodny, Jr. Post 28 Suncook, Treasurer Royal Miller, Jr. Post 3 Nashua, Judge Advocate Bob Bournival Post 43 Manchester, Chaplain Ray LaPointe Post 69 Somersworth, Asst. The District 5 Summer Conference will be held on Saturday July 14, 2007, at Post 112 in Epsom.  We begin with a Post Service Officer's Meeting at 9am.  Department Service Officer Gary Wayman (3) will be there to answer questions and discuss ways we can work together for our veterans.  At 11am we will have the Summer Conference where we elect officers for several positions in the District.  Everyone is invited, especially anyone interested in being a district officer.

Commanders, please put the enclosed poster on your bulletin board so all members will be aware of these meetings, and give the copy to your Post Service Officer and encourage them to attend.  We will discuss the District 5 schedule for the coming year and are open to ideas for interesting projects.  Please send a representative so we can have a quorum and your members can receive all this valuable information.

We have a new District 5 SAL Commander.  He is Mark Joyce from Squadron 28 in Suncook.  Welcome Mark!  Sons of The American Legion members are encouraged to attend our Service Officers meeting and Summer Conference to meet Mark and give us your ideas to make us a better organization.

Do you have email?  I would like to try to send as many of these newsletters by email if possible.  If you have email, please just send me a note at sfaretra@aol.com so I can compile a list.  Thanks very much!

I look forward to seeing you in July.  Have a fun and safe summer and thank you for all you do in your community.

In Comradeship,

Sue
