GRANITE GIRLS STATE PROGRAM

The 63rd Annual Session of the Granite Girls State Program of the American Legion Auxiliary, will be held June 24 to June 30 at the Franklin Pierce College http://www.fpc.edu located in Rindge, New Hampshire.

Our Girls State Program is considered one of the finest programs for girls nation and looked upon with extreme favoritism on college applications.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the very few girls chosen to attend Girls State each year.

New Hampshire’s Granite Girls State is a mythical state patterned after the State of New Hampshire which follows New Hampshire governmental procedure as closely as possible.  It is a practical application of Americanism and good citizenship accomplished through non-political attempts to teach and inculcate in our youth a love of America and a sense of individual obligation to their community, state and nation.

The over 100 girls from various communities throughout the State of New Hampshire will attend Granite Girls State in June.  The girls have their own town, city, county and state governments.  They will receive knowledge of our two-party system.  (At Granite Girls State we have two fictitious political parties).  They will caucus, have Primary elections, a Convention rally and General Elections.

They will elect their own town, city, county and state officials.  They will learn the duties, functions, limitations and powers of various public offices.  They will have their own legislature where they introduce, debate and make their own bills.  They will act out typical city, town, county and state sessions of government as well.

Each girl has a chance to learn for herself that her government is just what she makes it.  She learns the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.

Applicants must be in their Junior year of high school, either public school, private school or home school.  Applicants must attend the entire session.

Applicants must rank scholastically in the upper half of her class, possess qualities of leadership, have good character and be cooperative.  Each applicant must be willing to pledge allegiance to the Flag of our Country.  Applicants must be citizens of the United States and residents of the State of New Hampshire.

We need to be emphasizing the Samsung Scholarship…this scholarship can realize a citizen up to $20,000.00 with the New Hampshire selection receiving $1,000.00.  These scholarships are paid directly to the citizens college of choice after acceptance.

Encourage every girl to attend either your orientation or one in a neighboring District, it is very important for their success, they get the opportunity to know what is expected from them as well as what they should expect from the Girls State staff.

A $25.00 non-refundable processing fee must be included with the application.
